Blame It on My Iphone

So I guess it has been a while since I have posted. Blame it on my new Iphone. I love it!! I can check facebook in the comfort of my loveseat. I can search the web for anything without sitting at the BIG computer. I just haven't ventured into my blog from my Iphone. I know it can be done, but you know me and technology. We aren't the best of friends. In fact, I don't think we should be in the same room because we don't get along. That being said, I love my Iphone. I do not have many apps installed. I'm sure I only use a tenth of it's potential. But then we only use a tenth of our brains. Guess I should learn to develop both of them. But not right now. You see, I'm going in the living room to watch tv. That will really develop my brain while I check in with my Iphone, my friend.

Life Update

I have no excuse for not writing except that I have been busy. Since I had some routine tests done under anesthesia, I've been sleeping 8 hours a night. While that sounds good to most of you, it is not for me. I am so groggy as if I didn't have enough sleep. And I do not have enough time in the morning to check or write much on my correspondences. Did you know that an excuse is a skin of a reason stuffed with a lie?? And furthermore, did you know I have been missing? LOL

Now What Should I Do?

I have nothing planned from now until the beginning of school. I don't do well without plans. There is always work to do such as cleaning house, pulling weeds, etc. But I don't want to do that. I also have homework to do, but I don't want to do that either. So, I need to be creative and come up with something useful and fun to do so I don't waste away. I need to make housework and homework fit into my useful and fun category. LOL

Sick Day for Sure

Well, I am too ill to go to school today. That's me, on the left, feeling quite badly. I thought my chest congestion and coughing would be worse, and they are. Also running a fever. Don't want to go into detail, but it wouldn't be pleasant for any of us in my room today. Took me almost 30 minutes to finally get on the web site to secure a substitute for today. You Are What You Eat

Would you be willing to eat in this restaurant if you saw this posted with the menu? While vacationing in California this summer, we saw this posted in numerous restaurants. While trying to get the snapshot of the poster, I was being watched by the chef on duty in the place. I was willing to explain that I had never seen this warning and that I was not going to hold him responsible, I was just curious. He didn't come after me though.

Fixed Car, Will Travel

The Vue is fixed. After another conversation on the telephone with the service manager, he told hubby how to fix the oil light without driving the car to their place. Guess the computer is set up to notify the owner every X number of miles and since they changed the oil a little ahead of schedule, they forgot to reset it. And the manager admitted that his department made a mistake in not fixing the computer. Is it too late to cancel those magnetic lemon signs?

Who Really Hides the Eggs?

Is it wrong to tell our children that the Easter Bunny hides eggs? Just wondering if my grown children were harmed by this. I was told there was a bunny, and I'm okay. (No additional comments from the fam on that. Ha!) Would little children believe that the chickens hide the eggs? Well, years ago, when we were raising 500 chickens, some of the hens hid their eggs daily. And no, I didn't feel like it was Easter! I have fourth graders, 9-12 years old, who still believe in the Easter Bunny. I shall not be the one to break the news and ruin their lives.

This Doesn't Look Like Alaska

Can't believe it is Wednesday already of my vacation. This time last year, I was in Alaska. Seems like I haven't really done anything but sit and eat. I have papers to grade and lessons to look over, but not yet. I don't think I will forget what they are if I wait another day or two. There are several things I should do today such as visiting certain people, cleaning up my house, sorting and pitching old papers, etc. But it seems I never get around to doing that either. Toots spent the night with me again. We stayed up till 10:00 last night, so she was more ready to go to bed and go to sleep. I sneaked out of the room at 5:00, but I didn't hear that little voice calling after me. So she must still be sleeping or my wishful thinking. Perhaps I will be allowed to drink a cup of coffee before she appears.

Listening to that Little Voice

I picked up my granddaughter one evening this week. She was glad to see me like in olden days. On the way to my house where she would play on her jungle gym, she told me that if she behaves, she will get to have her ears peered. I explained that it was pierced, but of course she was right. I reminded her that she had an X drawn on her sign-out sheet and that would count against her. Matter of factly, she said we just wouldn't tell her mom. Later in the evening, I brought up the X again and reminded her that Jesus didn't want her to behave badly. She told me to wait a minute cause Jesus was talking to her in her head. Then she replied that Jesus told her not to tell her mommy and that Mimi was to lie. Whoa! First of all, I hope no voice is talking to her. Secondly, if a voice is talking, it is not Jesus. We are hoping it is just her vivid imagination. And we all know how vivid that can be. BTW, I told mommy to ask about her behavior that day. At least Toots fessed up then.

Cut the Trim

Well, I finally tackled the job of undecorating the Christmas trees and putting all the boxes of ornaments, lights, etc. away. I worked on it off and on all day. It wasn't as much fun as decorating, but still rewarding. Having the empty spaces and clean look back was quite refreshing. My granddaughter was here and was not happy about it. She thought since the weather was still cold that we should leave the trees up for longer. She made a good point, but the trees had to come down. I didn't try to explain to her that in just about 10 months we start the process all over again. Ugh! Now that sounds like work.

Resolution to Improve

While looking over test data from our students for this school year, our principal asked each of us to list what we felt was our strengths and our weaknesses. Then we are to state how we will improve our teaching to help the children score higher. I instantly thought of a good way to improve, retire;)

Clutter

Here I sit in my computer room, surrounded by clutter. I need to begin working on ridding, condensing, purging, trashing this stuff. Where is Nate when you need him? But Nate would rid my room of all things that are us and create a beautiful room that has nothing of our "stuff." But then it would be done.

Finally, the Repair is Done

I finally did it. I sewed the arm back in the suede coat. Took about 15 minutes counting the cleaning up the threads from where it had been ripped out. I've only had the coat since early summer. It was one of those things that I have put off, dreading it, thinking I couldn't do it. Now that it is done, I could kick myself (okay, I know I couldn't literally do that at my age) for procrastinating so long on it. Now I need to take on the child's size 8 winter coat with the broken zipper that my sister gave me to fix and pass on. It was size 8 when my nephew wore it. He is 6'2". So I've had it a while, too. Let's just say I don't get in a hurry.

Deck the Yard for Christmas

Yesterday, hubby, Toots, and I put up some Christmas lights in the front yard. We also put out the wooden figure Nativity that I had made about ten years ago. (We are one of the few in the area that has a Nativity scene.) Anyway, I've always wanted a simple lean-to stable to set behind the manger scene, but had not been successful in getting it done. This year I had the idea of using old wooden pallets to set up in a three-sided lean-to. So, in less than ten years and thirty minutes, we now have a stable that enhances the view of the manger scene. And Toots said it was beautiful!

Honey, Did You Pay the Light Bill?

Watching the news, I heard an unbelievable story. This man has not paid an additional hookup and usage on his electric bill, not one dime more, in 16 years. Now it has been discovered that an electrician friend hooked the guy up and bypassed the meter. The man thinks his friend did this as a favor. He can't believe that he now owes $17,613.34 which must be paid in one month! He lamented that with two kids in college, money is tight. Wonder what career the kids are pursuing with an example like their dad? Wouldn't you think that if you have not paid anything extra for more use of electricity that you are doing something wrong? His local government has agreed to waive the criminal charges. Some would say, "Fry the sucker." I say, "Duh!!!!"

Say It Isn't So

Hubby and I shop at a chain grocery store because of necessity. A reward is cents off on gasoline purchases. We have been known to rush up to make needed purchases just before month's end so that we can utilize the discount. Well, for a long time, we have noticed that the amount earned toward cents off has fluctuated. And not long ago we had enough for two fill-up discounts only to find out that they had been used. My inquires have been unsatisfactory in a solution. Yesterday my husband called the company headquarters and got the answer. Seems as if the company has linked two of our children to our account, even though they do not live with us and got their discount cards separately, all the numbers are different. We have all been earning points (us more than them), and they have been using the discounts at the pump. Go figure. Merry Christmas, son and daughter.

Change in Temps

BRRRRRR! We woke up to temperatures below 40 degrees. I'm not ready for that. I'm not ready for winter. So sorry I complained about it being too hot. And so sorry I complained about sweating. Please bring back the heat!

Last Day of Freedom

Here I sit at the computer, thinking, stressing. I've been up since 5:00 am. Didn't have to get up that early, but I couldn't sleep. I would like to say that I am eagerly anticipating the start of school. NOT! I'm stressing over all the things I should have completed this summer and didn't get to them. Okay, I didn't try that hard, but then I'm on vacation. I need to stop the stressing, because those chores do not have to been done right now, today. I can do them when I get around to it. I should call and offer to keep Toots for the day. She and I could have one last day of summer fling. But will wait on that decision for at least a half hour or so. Come on, now, get motivated. Get up and do something. What, you talking to me?

Time Is Almost Up

As I sit here preparing for my day's activities, it hit me that I have less than a week of vacation left. The part that bothers me about that is I have all the cleaning, sorting, purging, etc. to do in my house, and I don't have enough time to get it all done. Guess I can just mark it off my list like I do every year!

The I Do To Do List for the Wedding

Well, it is done, the wedding dress alterations that is. I had to hem the front of three layers of dress, take in the sides on the bodice, and do a French bustle. Doing the job worried me because the dress belongs to my future daughter-in-law. I surely did not want to mess it it. And I didn't. Thank you, Lord. Now all I have to do for the wedding that is in just 19 days is possibly alter H's bridesmaid dress, alter A's dress, check out Toots's dress, find a suit for hubby, shop and find a dress for me, make the 6 batches of punch, assist my sister-in-law with readying the garden, finish cleaning up the upstairs for guests, buy new sheets, and finish planning the rehearsal dinner. Guess I'd better get busy, right after I take a week-long class to renew my teaching license. Who said I am on vacation?
