Out of the Mouth of Toots

While spending the night with us last week, our granddaughter, Toots, decided she wanted to call her mom. When she got the answering machine, Toots began to lecture her mom and dad and what Toots likes and dislikes them doing. Honestly, we had not been talking about anything. Bet they were surprised to hear that message.

Brains on Vacation

Well, it was back to school today after a week of vacation. Too bad the kids' brains didn't return with their bodies. They were asleep in their seats, blank stares on their faces. Hope they wake up before long. I already gave them a day of teaching. We will see if they actually learned anything.

I'm Heaven

Our granddaughter, Toots, told me that our bodies are Heaven. Since Jesus lives in Heaven, and He lives in our bodies, our bodies are Heaven. Argue that one;)

Sure Sign of Spring

People are mowing their grass today--a sure sign of Spring. If you cut your grass, will it start growing faster? If you wait to cut your grass, will it not need a haircut as soon?

The Museum

Went with Toots and my daughter to see the Children's Museum yesterday. The place is too big! Can't believe all the changes, remodeling, additions since the last time I was there. Can't remember how long since that was either. I really enjoyed the dinosaur area. At one point, a storm, complete with real fake lightening and thunder, rained on us. Well, it didn't really send drops, but it became suddenly cooler as if a storm had just passed. Throughout our time in the habitat, sounds of dinos roared across the enclosure. Toots had been actively playing and interacting for more than half an hour when all of a sudden, she turned to her mom and declared she was afraid. Guess she finally heard the sounds.

My Last Amen

I heard this song, My Last Amen, on the Christian radio this past week and became an instant fan. The youtube version, is from a live concert and has an awesome coronet solo at the beginning. It is not the best for vocals, but you can hear it here.

Post 801

My daughter helped me start my blog in 2005. She started hers in 2003, while in school. I have surpassed her entries a long time ago. With Facebook, it is difficult to keep up both, but I do love my blog. Here is to another 800 entries.

Pizza and a Game

Hubby and I attended a birthday party for our 7 year-old step-grandson, D. The party was one of the pizza places with the games, go cart racing, buffet, etc. I felt like I was in a casino with gambling. If one were seizure prone or experienced migraines, that was not the place to spend much time. D enjoyed himself and racked in a ton of gifts. Toots enjoyed herself as well. And the pizza/game place enjoyed racking in our money.

My New Cube

It is so much fun to travel around in my new cube. We put gas in it for the first time yesterday, and it only took 9 gallons. I think I'm gonna love it.

To Spank or Miss Recess

The parents of my granddaughter received a call from her pre-school yesterday. Seemed Toots got herself into some trouble. A boy in class was bothering her so she kicked him. The teacher offered a choice of punishment, spanking or miss recess. The parents chose miss recess. I haven't talked to the perpetrator yet, but I bet missing recess on such a gorgeous day was the greater punishment. Now to work on those anger issues.

Monkey Gym

Picked up Toots from daycare so we could play outside in the warm weather. On the drive to my house she said she had been playing on the monkey gym at school.

What to Buy?

Went shopping for our youngest step-grandson's birthday. He is very energetic and loves all kinds of things, and it was suggested that we get him a water gun. So hubby and I began searching the shelves of Toys R Us for just the right gun. It is interesting to note that the size of the gun does not correlate to the distance it shoots. Hubby thought it best not to buy the one that shoots a mile (just kidding). We calculated the distance from the front porch to the street then selected one that would reach the sidewalk, but not into the street or across the street. I can just see D, standing on the sidewalk, shooting all the way across the street to the neighbors' house. We forgot to check for strength of the stream compared to the life of the cats.

You Must Buy

I've just read the updates on FB for the morning and found an ad in the sidebar quite odd. One particular one today said, "Are you a teacher? Then you need to buy this shirt for all of your class." Yes, I'm a teacher, and no, I'm not buying any shirt for my class. I don't know who is being paid for creating the ad, but my class could have written better!

New Car!

We got our new car--a new Nissan Cube. It is scarlet red with a dark, dark gray interior. It handles like a VW bug. We requested our daughter drive it while we were in the big city. It will be so much fun motoring around in it. More later.

In the Palm of My Hand

We are studying static electricity in Science and the children are quite attentive. I did an experiment the other day where I rubbed an inflated balloon with wool and held it close to the table with salt on it. They were amazed to see the salt jump to the balloon and then back to the table. Several of the children wanted to try an experiment of their own. I'm the one thrilled now.

Imagination in Overdrive

Our granddaughter, Toots, has a very active imagination. She told me the other evening that she and her parents were going on a long trip. It's a secret. It's far away, and I can't go, and she can't tell. It will be so much fun. She had me believing that they were planning this wonderful vacation until she said it would happen right after her 6:30 pm dance class.

It's My Body

I am signing up to donate my body to science when I pass on. This morning I feel so rough that I'm wondering if they are on their way to my house right now. lol

Grandma by Any Other Name

Toots, our granddaughter, is experimenting with our grandparent names. For example, she has always called me Mimi and hubby Papa. But now she says Grandmother, Grandma, Granny, Nana for me and Poppy for Grandpa. I told her that is fine, but that I don't prefer Granny. So guess what she lets slip out? She smiles and quickly says, "I mean Nana." I suppose she hears all those choices from her pre-school and daycare friends. I have been playing along with her and decided to start calling her by her middle name, shortened middle name, etc. She just grinned and commented that I was doing what she was doing with names. How did she get so smart at 5?

Been Cubed

That is the name given to us by our son-in-law, D. He and H were with us when we went car shopping in Indy. We specifically were trying out the Cube by Nissan. I am pretty sure we have settled on a deal to buy one in red. Never owned a red car. I will have to be sure I keep it under the speed limit or it will become "Hello, officer, red." If all goes as planned, we will pick it up this Saturday. Hope it goes as planned! Pictures to follow.

Six Years Gone

Yesterday was the sixth year anniversary of the passing of my brother, Joe. I miss him so. It doesn't seem possible that he has been gone so long. He would be so proud of the accomplishments of his family, and the character of his children. I guess his legacy shows in their lives.

Patient Knows Best

Hubby has returned to work this week against my better judgement. I thought he should have taken at least one more week. But he has done okay. He gets tired, but since he only works 1/2 days, he is able to endure until he hits the recliner all afternoon. I'm so thankful that he is well enough to do this much. He is well enough to be in the kitchen while I'm trying to fix my lunch and breakfast.

Marty's Burn

Just came back from the bone surgeon. He said Marty has a second degree burn from the ice cooling machine. Also said in his 20 some years of practice he has never seen anything like it. In fact, he was dumbstruck. He acted indecisive as to what to do about treating it. I bet he changed instructions 5 times before we walked out of the office. Though he tried to reassure us that it will be okay and should heal quickly, he couldn't hide it in his facial expressions.
