All Turkeyed Out

Toots helped me cook Thanksgiving dinner. She was up early and stuck it out all morning. By afternoon we were to take a nap together. She didn't stay in bed with me though. Here is the little turkey catching up on her sleep.

Another Thanksgiving Meal

We were blessed to be invited to share in a Thanksgiving meal with Toots's Kokomo Mimi and Papa. The food was delicious and the time spent together even better. Toots was very excited to have both Mimis and both Papas in the same place. Thanks for inviting us, Mimi and Papa.

Diaper Mission Work

Hubby and I met with the early crowd to go shopping this morning at 6:00 am. I know, I know, that is not as early as some, but we only needed to go to one store. We went to a fabric store to buy our yearly supply of flannel material to make diapers for a mission in Haiti. In an hour, we were able to select, to have measured, to wait in line, to pay, and walk out the store with 237 yards! That will be enough to do our ministry for next year. Ah, mission work that didn't require shots, passports, hot weather, unusual food, or heavy work. That was great!

Easy Missions to Do from Home

Hubby and I went to the National Missionary Convention last weekend. It was so awesome. I was happy to get new ideas of how to do missions in the states. Our small group from church is becoming more involved with the missions, so some of the new ideas will be useful to them as well. One new ideas is called Mission in a Bag. People collect and send in a plastic bag medical supplies, school supplies, sewing items, etc. This will be a great way to send all those yard goods that I have purchased over the years, but do not get around to making. Also a fellow teacher's grandmother has tons of material she needs to send. She will be so pleased to know that it will be useful all around the world! Another mission asks for old bibles, leftover church, VBS, Sun. School, and school materials. The stuff is sorted, bundled, and send all over the world to people who need it. Such an easy thing.

Oh, What a Beautiful Morning

It is great to start the day every day. This photo is so awesome. I took it one morning just outside the dormitory door while on our mission trip to Barbados. Wish I could see the sun come up everyday like this.

Toots and the Turkeys

Our granddaughter spent the night with us last night. Before we went to bed, she colored and cut out each piece of a pattern to make a turkey. She was so proud of it. Wish it weren't purple and gray... This morning she and I made another turkey. This one required her to trace her hands and shoe, cut, and assemble as a turkey. Looked pretty cute! It now adorns my fridge where I have been requested to never remove it. Then our last project for the morning was another turkey. She stuffed a brown work glove with fiberfill and did a better job than most adults would do. We found felt to cut a wattle and beak and decided on seeds for eyes. We found the seeds under a large tree in the backyard. After I told her that the birds had eaten fruit and pooped out those seeds, she didn't question why we had to wash our hands. With a hot glue gun, she helped me attach the pieces. Had to buy fake feathers from the store and have those to add to make it look like a real bird. Pictures will be coming soon.

The Block Church Building

Here are a couple pictures of the building in progress. By the end of the second week, the walls were 11 blocks high and ready for the next floor.

Building the Church

We had about half women on our team to build the church in Barbados. Although not as strong, each woman had a job to do. At the moment, mine was taking pictures.

Some Pictures of Barbados

Now that I figured out how to share pictures on my blog ( some button was changed and wouldn't let me post) I will share a few a day until I get tired. NOT.
The picture on top is one of the many beach pictures I took. This one was totally awesome to look at but dangerous to swim in with its strong undertow. I had difficulty standing in ankle-deep water. Can't imagine going out deeper.
This is a field of sugar cane, their number one crop. It looks similar to our corn fields. When the cane is mature, it is stripped of all leaves and looks like a cane pole. While in Barbados at the camp, we were given a piece each to chew on. It is very sweet, but like chewing on a cornstalk. You definitely don't eat it. I'm not sure how the processing goes to extract the sweetness.

A Small Serving of Pickled Chicken Feet

Hope this doesn't gross you out. It is just not the same as if you have the smell of the pickling along with the cooked "chicken" in the heat of the day when you are already sick to your stomach from the heat. I was going to try one, but after I watched this man wallow the foot around in his mouth for several minutes, then spit out the bones, I couldn't do it. Makes me want to barf right now just talking about it. But it was worth it, cause my students at school are totally impressed with me after seeing these pictures.

One Extra Hour

Where did that extra hour of sleep go? We were traveling home from the airport after the stroke of midnight. By the time we arrived home and were ready for bed, the time was really what it should be when one sets the clock back one hour. I know that didn't make any sense, but neither does the getting one more hour of sleep. I'm still waiting on it.
