Pre-School Christmas Program

We went to the granddaughter's Christmas program last night. All the children were dolled up and duded out. In fact, one little 3 or 4 year old girl had on a spaghetti strap dress with long white satin gloves that went up past her elbows. I couldn't see if she were wearing high heels. Anyway, back to the program. Before it started, Toots came back to our seat several times to tell us "things". She said they are to talk loudly enough so that the people on the back row can hear them. Another time she had to go potty. I was elected to take her. Since I am not familiar with the lay out, I asked the minister where the restrooms were. He led us to the area while Toots booms out, "I told my Mimi that they were over here." The program begins with her class up first. The teacher/administrator apologized before they began saying they had had only two weeks to work on the poems/songs. Well, when the group began, you could pick out Toots immediately. She was the one with the loud voice. In fact, she was the only one who knew the poems. We sat proud and embarrassed at the same time. At the end of each recitation she made this cute little face as if to say, "I'm just so cute and special!" For the closing number for the evening, all of the classes assembled on the stage and the floor to sing "We Wish You a Merry Christmas." Because they were spread out so much they couldn't hear one another and ended up sounding as if they were doing a round. We weren't sure where Joslyn was, but as soon as they started singing, we could pick her out. And her group finished the "round" last. Guess you could say she has a future in projecting her voice.

Searching for the Song

Just checked out Google for the song "It Ain't Gonna Rain No More" and got 332,000 hits. I checked out several just to see. Very interesting! Seems it is a South African camp song. Also boy scouts and girl scouts claim it. What is most interesting is reading each of the verses. The boys' version is quite different from the girls' version by being a little more blunt or maybe gross while the girls' version includes verses I've heard from other songs or hand-clap chants. The song is even on You Tube with several to choose. Washboard Hank is quite animated while the one with the baby is so cute. When I figure out how to link them to this post, I will come back and edit.

Frog Sat on the Lily Pad

Growing up, my mom always sang a song about a frog sitting on the lily pad and how it "ain't gonna rain no more." We snapped a picture of a frog doing just that, but since it hasn't rained in a long time, I'm not so sure the frog can predict weather.

Preach It, Brother

Our church is celebrating a significant anniversary by holding a three-day "rally" this weekend. Last night, my brother was the song leader and featured soloist. He had held that position some years back. It was so exciting and nostalgic to be in that service with him. You see, he is now a minister at another local church and we do not worship together in the same building. We sang many of my old favorite hymns as well as those of the large audience. You see, many churches have left the old hymns for the new praise choruses, but not all people are happy about that. One of the former ministers was also on hand to deliver the sermon. He has always been a dynamic speaker, and we were blessed last night with more of his best. As we all were smiling, taking in the feel-good feelings of walking down memory lane, we were brought back to reality with the message of his sermon--look to the past, remember the past, learn from the past, look to the past and do better now, and stay in the future! Step out in faith. I have been reluctant to change, but have made the switch to the newer style of worship. But I'm sure many were sitting in shock during the message, thinking that Pastor Glenn would support their desire to worship as of old. Never would they have expected to hear such a sermon from their beloved former minister. I can guarantee that many of the audience were suspicious, thinking that our current minister somehow gave that topic of a need-to-change to Pastor Glenn to deliver to the captive audience. But knowing Pastor Glenn like we all do, he is a man who would not be "forced" to deliver a message he did not believe in himself. So, as we continue the rally with another former minister tonight, it will be interesting to hear his sermon and how he relates it to the past and his challenge for the future. Stay tuned.

Ohhh, I Don't Feel Well

Have you ever gotten out of bed and just didn't feel well? Was it a work-day? Have you ever gotten out of bed and didn't feel well until you found out it was a weekend or day off? Yea, me too. Makes me feel like Spanky from the original Little Rascles. I can remember him complaining of not feeling well when his momma tried to get him up. When he learned it was Saturday, he jumped out of bed, pulled on his pants, and began singing, "Oh, it's Saturday, it's Saturday, with a honny, honny, honny and a ha cha cha." (The spelling may not be correct, but you get the picture.) This morning I didn't feel well upon arising, but feel much better now that our school has a two-hour delay. Now I wonder what other adventure from Spanky's past that I might enact today!

Do Re Mi

A person who laughs a lot is said to extend his/her life by 8 years. A person who sings will extend his/her life by 15 years. Just think, if you can't sing, do it anyway because you will gain 15 years and help someone who is laughing at you gain 8 years. Ha!
