Fixed Car, Will Travel

The Vue is fixed. After another conversation on the telephone with the service manager, he told hubby how to fix the oil light without driving the car to their place. Guess the computer is set up to notify the owner every X number of miles and since they changed the oil a little ahead of schedule, they forgot to reset it. And the manager admitted that his department made a mistake in not fixing the computer. Is it too late to cancel those magnetic lemon signs?

Lemon in Black Paint

We have had our Saturn Vue for 6 months. And we have taken it in for minor repairs 6 times. The worse part is that the service department gives false information causing us to make more trips to fix the same item. Hubby didn't get the back hatch rubber covering fixed on Friday, due to their miscommunication. He has to return with it when the part arrives. But that's okay, because when we drove to church yesterday the oil light came on and stayed on. After church hubby checked the oil and it is fine. Oh, and he found a loose bolt lying beside the engine! Now where does that go? What is not attached this time? So another trip to see them, another adventure. Hubby is threatening to put a lemon sign on the side of the car when he drives it there the next time. Is this some kind of test for the owner? For the service department?

Busy Day!

Cleaned the house, off to Sunday School and church, lunched with the daughters and families, swam with the granddaughter, lead water aerobics, off to Indy for lunch with son and wife, back home to walk to get my 10,000 steps in for the day for a total of 70,000 for the week, read the Sunday paper, checked out Facebook, and now my post. Whew! Makes one very tired.

What Day Is This?

Up at 5:00 this morning, wondering what day this is. Had a busy week with VBS and beginning our water exercises at my sister-in-law's pool. In addition, I have begun the challenge of walking 10,000 steps each day and dieting. I would predict that I would be dragging and feeling pretty bad at this point, but I actually feel pretty good. Hope I can stick with it.

Stay Tuned for More News About Your Camel

During VBS I play a news anchor who starts the program with lead-off stories before turning it over to our eyewitness reporter, Corinna. It's all set back in Jesus's time on earth. The two of us have a script to work from, but we are both good at ad libbing. Sometimes we come up with the same idea at the same time and just go with it. Yesterday, for the mock weather report, we decided to talk about the heat advisory and keeping their camels out of the sun until after 6:00 pm, ECT or Eastern Camel Time. Some of the children got the joke right away while others just looked confused. In the "off the air" segment yesterday, we, as the reporters, quiz the students about what they have learned or heard about Jesus. Because they are giving us so many stories, we joked about having extra newscasts or break-in reports. Corinna encouraged them to tune in throughout the day to listen. We must be believable because several wanted to know what channel to watch on their tv.

Be There!

After VBS I went swimming at my sister-in-law's house to do water exercises. She called to say be at her house at 12:30 to start. I knew that would be pushing me on time, but I hurried anyway. When I arrived none of the other girls were there and Katrina was working in the yard. So much for hurrying to make the appointed time. I should have made it much harder on them during the exercises!

Better Than Chicken

While driving home from Holiday World, we somehow got on the conversation of foods. Toots told us that her friend picks his nose then eats it. We all said, "Yuck." When I asked her if it was good, she said yes, because she had tasted his. I so hope she was telling us a story!

Chilled Pop with the New Family

My family went to Holiday World on Saturday and spent the night at a hotel in Jasper. We had a great time even though it was so very hot and muggy. At the hotel, while getting pop from the vending machine and ice in the bucket, H and her step-son, JJ, turned to go back to the room. JJ put the pop in the ice bucket. The conversational exchange went like this: H-You don't put the pop in the ice. We are not chilling wine. JJ-Then what is the ice for? H-It is for the glasses. JJ-Ohhhhh, I see. (When he arrived back at the room, he promptly put the glasses in the ice bucket.) H-No, we put ice IN the glasses then pour in the pop. JJ-(laughing) Ohhhh! H and JJ will get along famously.

Happy Father's Day, Dad

Father's Day was one of my dad's favorite holidays. It wasn't about the presents or the cards he received. He simply enjoyed the whole family getting together, eating favorite foods, talking, laughing, and telling jokes. As he aged, he participated less each year. But he wouldn't be far from the action, sitting in a comfortable chair, listening intently to all that took place. My dad passed away 18 months ago. He enjoyed a long 88 years and 62 Father's Days.

Hot Time at Church Camp

Hubby and I went to a church camp held locally to help serve dinner last night. The facility is new and not fully developed, so not everything is completely functional nor "done". There is no air-conditioning in the mess hall. And was it ever hot last evening. The sweat was pouring down my face and down my back. If I had the luxury of standing in front of a fan, it helped a little, but you can't work and stand in front of a fan too. The kids were having so much fun! Sweaty, in wet bathing suits, mud-smeared, barefoot, hair plastered back, sunburned, and smiling! People cared enough about them to provide this opportunity to attend camp. Many lasting impressions have been made this week. Many lives have been touched and changed. Thank you, God, for bring forth adults who have the call to serve You by serving the children.

Just Like Dad

Went swimming with Toots yesterday, and she spent the night as well. If you ever want to see your mannerisms, how you cock your head when you are trying to make a point, just watch a little child that is around you a lot. When trying to make her point with me about the coloring page that we were doing last night, she cocked her head to the side, stepped back, and delivered her verbal blow, JUST like her dad! And the worse thing is, he will be so proud when he hears of it.

A Day with Toots

Toots spent the day with me on Monday. We enjoyed running errands, playing on her jungle gym, eating a picnic on our patio, and swimming. The water was much too cold for my pleasure, but she said it was just fine. She can "swim" a little better than last year, actually moving forward in the water on her own, and only using wings or floaties. Hopefully, the more we go, the sooner she will learn to swim on her own. She tried out her new goggles. She insisted on wearing them and jumping in again and again. It was cute to she the contortions on her face caused by the goggles pushing her nose or eyes up. I didn't try to dissuade her because she knows best.

The Wedding

The wedding was beautiful! Although it threatened rain all day, it held off for the whole ceremony and reception. Heidi was so beautiful while Doug was so handsome. Thank you, Lord, for providing in so many ways!

The Wedding Ceremony

The big wedding day for our daughter is tomorrow. My brother is a minister and will be doing the ceremony. Since he is always so busy I took the liberty to write some opening comments and some vows for him to choose to use tomorrow. Here is the first one: Dearly Beloved and other people, We are gathered here together in this public place (because we have nothing better to do) to end the freedom of these two young, well, almost young, people by joining them together in holy matrimony aka marriage. Or maybe they would prefer this one: Welcome to all of you who decided to come see if this event would really happen. Everything is on schedule and neither has backed out even through all the preparations. (Although hubby did have to promise the groom the bequeathing of his BMW.) (Not really, other sibs.) But maybe this one will do: Let's make this short, sweet, and to the point. (To groom) "Do you?" Groom answers, "Yes." (To the bride) "Do you?" Bride answers, "Yes." "Done! I now sentence you to a lifetime of happiness. Let me be the first to present him and her--you all know who they are or you shouldn't be here." I wait with anticipation to learn which one the couple will choose to use. You can use this opportunity to let them know which one you would choose for them in the comment section.

Holy Bug

Toots came over to play and spend the night last night. We were on the patio when she called me over to see one of her favorite bugs, a holy poly. She meant roly poly, just guessing on the spelling. But I think holy poly is just fine.

Scary News

My son is facing another scary situation. He has a lump on the side of his neck that his doctor has been watching for a while. After some time and some further tests, the doctor said the lymph gland is much bigger and must come out. It might be cancer, but if it is, it is not a new one. It would be from the previous tongue cancer. In July, T must go in for surgery to have that gland removed and maybe some more. Pray for the minimum. Pray for good results. Pray for peace of mind for T and his wife.

Busy Week

Just had my first full week of summer break! I spent 4 of the 5 days in professional development. Now before you say "Yuk!" I must say that it was for pay!!! I love it when I get to volunteer to go to meetings to earn extra money when so many other times we are expected to do it for free. I am trying to earn a little extra to help pay for my granddaughter's preschool and daycare for next year. Would you believe that it will cost around $4,300 for Toots to attend preschool 5 half-days and finish the day out at the daycare? For that amount, she could go 3 semesters to IVY TECH! But what is a parent to do? What is a grandparent to do? We are to help out, especially since Toots's dad is laid off.
