What's for Lunch?

One of my students is really into his 2 liter bottle made into an ecosystem. He has brought it to school several different times with several different insects within. Yesterday he had a salamander that grandpa had caught for him as well as insects and snails. While we were working, he let out a whoop. He was watching as the salamander ate one of the snails leaving the shell intact. Of course the students crowded around his desk to see, hoping it would eat or maybe not eat the other snail. How do you get back to work with that happening? You don't. That was a teachable moment in many ways. Glad we didn't have escargot on our menu for the school lunch! Wonder what creatures he will bring today?
