Happy Earth Day!
Earth Day! Today many schools will do some activity to celebrate Earth Day. The problem with that is students are asked to buy a new shirt, buy the puffy paints, and make a shirt to signify Earth Day. One parent, also a teacher, spent $28 for the shirt and paints just this week. What does that teach the kids? The children will not wear the shirt again. Perhaps we should do a better job of teaching them not to waste. I plan to take my class outside today and pick up trash around the school grounds. It's always a fun activity for the kids to get out of the building as well as an opportunity to learn about keeping our school and environment clean. I will also give grades on their work.
